Digital Analysis

There is the same legal requirement to retain and analyse data from the digital tachograph as there is with analogue tachographs. With analogue tachographs the employer retained and analysed the paper charts the driver had submitted. With digital tachographs there are two different elements of data to retain and analyse. A computer and special software is required to analyse and retain all data.

Driver Card.

Card Reader

A card reader is required to download the data from a driver card to the computer, there are several types now available from desk based to stand alone units with email connection for satellite sites. Please view our digital products webpage for a variety of suitable cardreaders.

The card, which holds approx 28 days of data, should be downloaded within the legislative timescale and before data is lost from the card. Once the card is full of data, the first days data is removed and the last days data entered. Therefore only the latest data is retained on the card and once data is lost from the card it cannot be retrieved.

Experience has shown that digital cards, which have been contaminated by handling the chip contained on the card, have contaminated the electronic contacts in the digital tachograph head resulting in potentially costly repairs.

Also digital cards, which are stored in personal wallets along with debit/credit cards are malfunctioning, requiring the cards needing to be replaced through the DVLA. Remember you only have 15 days to replace a faulty driver card.

Clients are strongly advised to ensure that all driver and company cards are cleaned on a regular basis. And also to ensure that cards are not stored in personal wallets, please view our digital products webpage for suitable card holders in which to store cards.

VU Mass Memory Data.

VDO Download Key

There are now several different types of downloading devices, the VDO download key or the Digidown downloading devices are examples, please look at our digital products for the devices we are able to supply.

Whilst the data is held in the VU mass memory for 365 days it is a legal requirement to download the data at a maximum of 56 day intervals

The VDO Tis-Web internet based analysis system incorporates two elements, which enable you the client to comply with the rules on analysis and archiving.

Tis-Web Working Time.

This is the part of the system where the data from analysed analogue charts is integrated with the data from both driver card and VU downloads. It is where all driver, vehicle, WTD and management reports are obtained.

Data stored within Tis-Web Working Time is retained on a secure server for the time periods to comply with EU Regulations & WT Directives. Because the data stored in Tis-Web Working Time can be altered (modes or times changed), this data is not acceptable as original authenticated data to meet VOSA requirements.

Tis-Web Archive.

As the name implies, this is where data downloaded from driver cards and VUs are stored in an original authenticated state. No data from analogue charts is retained within Tis-Web Archive. Each download (not chart) is provided with a unique file ticket reference, meeting VOSA requirements on original authenticated data.
